Restore Your Facial Appearance Now!
It is common to experience bone loss around the teeth as a result of progressive disease, infection or trauma. However, bone loss can limit our ability to restore your smile using methods like dental implants or implant supported dentures.
We offer bone augmentation and bone grafting procedures to replace lost bone. Bone grafting can also restore the proper facial contours where bone is missing in the font of the mouth.
Bone Loss Occurs Immediately After Tooth Loss
Bone loss in the jaw bone is common when one or more teeth have been lost due to injury, decay, or trauma. Without the tooth in place to stimulate the jaw bone, the bone around the missing tooth will begin to deteriorate.
Bone Loss and Dental Implants in Sacramento, CA
occurs frequently in patients who have lost teeth as a result of gum disease or injury. In areas that have experienced tooth loss, the jaw bone stops receiving the stimulation it needs to grow and becomes reabsorbed by the body. After an extended amount of time, bone loss may become so severe that it hinders the possibility of placing dental implants. It is not impossible, however, to have dental implants placed under these conditions. In cases where sufficient bone mass is unavailable, Dr. Jonathan Szymanowski and Dr. C. Thaddeus Szymanowski can perform a bone grafting procedure to increase your chances of success with dental implants.
What Is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is a surgical process in which bone mass is taken from one area and grafted onto another to increase bone density in areas that have begun to deteriorate. There are three different types of bone grafts that can be used to repair bone loss:
– These take bone from a nonessential body part, such as the chin, and graft it onto the area that needs assistance.
– These are similar to autogenous grafts except that the bone is taken from a bone bank, rather than the patient’s own body.
– These grafts take bone samples from nonhuman sites, such as cattle. The benefit here is that an additional surgical site is not required and available bone is plentiful.
Each method of bone grafting has its own specific purpose and benefit. You will need to consult with Dr. Szymanowski to determine which method will best repair your bone loss.
What Happens After the Procedure?
After the bone grafting procedure, Dr. Szymanowski will prescribe antibiotics and pain medication. It can take up to nine months for the area to heal completely. Once healing is complete, you will be ready to receive dental implants in Sacramento, CA. For more information about repairing bone loss, contact Dr. Szymanowski and schedule your consultation today!
