Gum Disease Impacts Your Heart Health

"We all think that cholesterol is important to heart disease. The health of your gums is a more important predictor of whether or not you will have a heart attack or not."

Laser Gum Surgery for Sacramento, CA Patients

Laser Gum Treatment Stages in Sacramento, CA

The Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) is a highly effective gum surgery alternative that can allow Dr. Jonathan Szymanowski to remove as much as 90 percent of inflammation in just a single treatment. Laser gum surgery for patients with moderate to severe periodontal disease is the most desirable treatment option, thanks to the effectiveness of LANAP®. Here is a brief description of how it works:

Step 1: Examining Your Periodontal Pockets

The first step in LANAP® is to examine the severity of periodontal pocketing and determine how far along your gum disease has progressed. This will help us to plan your treatment accordingly.

Step 2: Eliminating Bacteria and Disease

Dr. Szymanowski will use the PerioLase® MVP-7™ to vaporize infected tissue and eliminate any bacteria from beneath the gum line. There are no scalpels or sutures used in the process, making LANAP® a less painful gum surgery alternative.

Step 3: Removing Tartar Deposits

The laser alone cannot remove deposits of calculus (tartar), so we will need to use ultrasonic scaling instruments to accomplish the removal of these deposits.

Step 4: Stimulating Regrowth

Dr. Szymanowski will then use the laser a second time to stimulate underlying bone and tissue structures and promote regrowth in the affected areas. This will also cause the blood to clot and cease bleeding, making LANAP® a safer gum surgery alternative with a smaller chance of postoperative infection.

Step 5: Reattaching the Tissue

With LANAP®, we can reattach the tissue to the surface of your teeth without relying on sutures to hold it in place.

Step 6: Examining Your Bite and Checking for Trauma

Finally, we will examine your bite and check your teeth for any signs of trauma. This is especially important in areas that have been affected by bone loss.

Since LANAP® is able to reduce bleeding and stimulate regrowth in areas affected by disease, it is often considered a safer gum surgery alternative. To learn more about laser gum surgery for Sacramento, CA patients, contact Dr. Szymanowski to schedule your consultation today!
